ADC election campaigns wind up

Imp/Lamka/Ukl, May 30 2015 : Campaigning for the ADC election slated for June 1 has come to an end this afternoon at 4 .

Voting will start from 7 am of Monday and will be over by 4.30 pm.

All the necessary preparations have been put in place for the successful conduct of the poll.

To ensure safe, free and fair election, State forces along with paramilitary forces have been assigned to man the 1163 polling stations of the six ADCs of the State.

Polling officers have start-ed moving to their respective polling stations.

The total number of voters for the ADC election is 6, 88, 410 and 495 candidates are in the fray.

Earlier, seven Congress candidates, three NPF candidates and one BJP candidate have already been declared elected as there were no challengers.

Interestingly, Manipur witnessed many heated verbal duels like never before between BJP and Congress during the election campaigns.

Also, many cases of threat and assault to political workers were reported.

If there arises any need for re-poll, it would be held on June 6 .

Counting of votes would take place on June 10 .

Meanwhile, in an attempt to avoid any unwanted incidents during the ADC poll, the Deputy Commissioner of Chandel district has imposed restrictions under 144 CrPC in the whole Chandel district.

Chandel DC Robert Kshe-trimayum issued an order to this effect today.

This restrictions, however, will not cover polling personnel, voters, polling agents, election agents and also media persons.

Singlianmang Guite reports from CCpur: Consi- derable number of polling personnel for Monday's ADC poll left the district headquarters this evening with officials claiming that several of them have already reached the interior villages though the polling materials are still placed in groups under tight security even as there are reports of some miscreants capturing ballot boxes before the personnel reached their destinations.

Deployment of polling personnel for the 24 DCC seats in Churachandpur began on Thursday with personnel for 16 far flung polling stations deployed that day itself.

On Friday, personnel for 31 polling stations were deployed while today's deployment stood at 71 .

With today's deployment, personnel for all the far flung areas are expected to reach their destinations on Sunday.

For the remaining 172 booths, deployment will continue till Saturday and Sunday, said a source that also identified that there are 19 hyper sensitive polling stations in the entire district.

Against a total of 290 polling booths, 93 are categorised as sensitive.

It is leant that one section and a half of armed personnel will be deployed for the hyper sensitive booths.

The sensitive ones will have one section of armed security while the normal booths will be manned by unarmed personnel.

Mungchan Zimik reports from Ukhrul: Complete preparations have been start-ed for peaceful and smooth conduct of the ADC polls in Ukhrul district.

At the same time, 86 polling parties have set off for their respective destination since yesterday while the remaining parties will start moving tomorrow from Pakshi ground, Hundung.

152 polling stations, out of total 206 in Ukhrul district, have been declared as hyper-sensitive while 54 stations have been declared as sensitive polling stations.

23 companies of security forces including State forces, Central paramilitary forces and unarmed VDF personnel have already been detailed to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.

Talking to this correspondent, Modak Hrisheekesh, DC of Ukhrul said that enough arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful conduct of the elections despite reports of isolated cases of anti-social activities during the past few days.

He said security measure in the district has also been tightened while also adding that a special control room is opened at the district SP office to monitor better link and coordination.

The control room will be functional 24 hours a day.

Arrangement has also been made to ensure direct communication link with all presiding officers, Modak said.

Urging all voters to exercise their franchise, the DC also appealed to all concerned to extend support and cooperation for the peaceful and smooth conduct of the elections.
