Primary teachers plying trade at 'higher level'

Though they have been engaged as primary teachers, many of them have been posted in Junior High Schools, High Schools and even Higher Secondary Schools ! .

Taking into consideration the shortage of teachers in various Government schools under the Directorate of Education (S), Government of Manipur had conducted a DPC for recruitment of Primary Teachers, Hindi Matriculate Teachers and Hindi Graduate Teachers in 2006.But the results of the DPC has not yet been declared till date.

After the results of the DPC was published in a local paper, while pending an official declaration, the 'selected' candidates launched a series of agitations demanding declaration of the result.

In an apparent move to pacify the agitated candidates, the Government of Manipur finally issued a notification on March 7, 2011 in connection with engagement of Primary Teachers, Hindi Matriculate/Hindi Graduate Teachers on contract for a period of 11 months at a remuneration of Rs 7600 per month.

Subsequently, the Director of Education (S), Government of Manipur issued another notification on March 31, 2011 declaring posting of the engaged teachers along with a directive that all the teachers engaged on contract should report to the schools specified against their respective names for duty with effect from April 11, 2011 without fail.

However, much to the their surprise, many of the candidates who have been engaged as primary teachers found themselves to have been posted in Junior High Schools, High Schools and even Higher Secondary Schools.

Some of the Higher Secondary Schools where the engaged Primary Teachers have been given posting include Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy (Wangkhei), CC Higher Secondary School (Imphal), Heirok Higher Secondary School (Heirok), Lilong Higher Secondary School (Lilong), Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School (Uripok), Wangoi Higher Secondary School (Wangoi), Mekola Gulap Higher Secondary School (Mekola), Johnstone Higher Secondary School (Imphal), Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School (Keishamthong), Nambol Higher Secondary School (Nambol), Model Higher Secondary School (Patsoi), TG Higher Secondary School (Imphal), Lamlong Higher Secondary School (Lamlong Bazar), etc.

According to sources, the list of the Primary Teachers, Hindi Matriculate/Hindi Graduate Teachers who have been engaged on contract basis is same with the DPC result 'unofficially' published in a local paper.

There is no difference even in the serial number of the candidates.
