Imphal, September 16, 2009:
Noting with concern that the ongoing class boycott agitation would have an adverse impact on the future prospect of the students, an emergency meeting was held at the Manipur University today.
With MU Vice Chancellor C Amuba presiding over the hurriedly convened session, members present unanimously resolved to appeal to the agitation sponsors to withdraw the strike call in the interest of the student community.
the meeting which was also attended by heads of departments, deans and members of Manipur University Teachers' Association resolved to urge agitating students to rejoin classes in view of their academic pursuit as well as to conform to the UGC guidelines.
The meeting assumes significance as the MU Students' Union had declared that it would extend support to the ongoing public movement in denunciation of the alleged fake encounter staged by police commandos on July 23 at BT road.
inspite of the MUSU questioning purpose of pursuing higher studies at such a time when students could be tortured or slain anytime and anywhere, MUTA president M Ranjit Singh informed 'We will appeal to our students to join their class'.
Report has been received here that on the first day of the class boycott agitation launched today by MUSU university staff and teaching faculties showed up for class attendance but waited in futility owing to absence of the students.
