Imphal, December 07 2014:
Verification drives of non-local people residing at different localities were carried out today by volunteers of JCILPS in collaboration with local clubs.
The verification drives covered Uripok Khoisnam Leikai, Laikhurembi Leikai and Panchayat Maning Leikai.
The verification drive at Uripok Khoisnam Leikai was jointly carried out by Khoisnam Leikai Youth Development Club (KLYDC), Apunba Tengbang Marup and JCILPS.
KLYDC president T Pari said that verification of non-locals living in the State is necessary for protection of indigenous people.
During a search operation conducted by security forces in the locality sometime back, the number of non-local people was found higher than indigenous people.

Some non-locals involved in criminal cases or who had criminal precedents were arrested by police from Kalibari, Thangal Bazar in the past, Pari said.
For all these reasons, verification of non-local people is necessary and the Government need to pay special attention to the rapid growth of immigrant population in the State.
JCILPS co-convenor VK Moirangcha said that the verification drive of non-local people would be carried out in different localities of the State.
He also sought cooperation of local clubs and organisations to help the JCILPS in verifying all non-local people.
Verification of non-local people may help in checking criminal activities.
However, the demand for enforcement of Inner Line Permit System does not necessarily mean that non-locals should be barred from entering Manipur.
Similar verification drives were also carried out at Mercyland, Mantripukhri and adjoining areas of Shantilata School, Paona Bazar.
