A social organization of Bishnupur has threatened to call a 48 hour general strike on Tiddim line if its demands made in connection with the custodial death of Wahengbam Brojen are not fulfilled by the Government.
Social Educational Health and Cultural Development Origination, Bishnupur is demanding judicial inquiry into the death of Brojen, to punish the guilty personnel, immediate stop to such combing operations, shifting of BSF from the district, removal of the DIG and SP Bishnupur, ex-gratia and a Government job to the family of the victim.
Stating that the BSF court of Inquiry will not bring out the truth the organization said it would call a 48 hour general strike on Tiddim line form 11 pm of September 7 if its demands are not fulfilled by 2.30 pm of September 7, a release said.
Meanwhile, a protest meeting held at Thongju Pechu ground demanded a judicial inquiry into the killing of Athokpam Purnima and Wahengbam Brojen by 8th AR and 128 BSF respectively and punishment to the guilty personnel.
Brojen was one of 18 persons rounded up during an operation at Thanga area on September 1.His dead body was handed over by the BSF, saying he died of illness, which many strongly refuted.
The AR is accused of killing Purnima after he was picked up from his house on the same day.
While demanding punishment of personnel guilty in Oinam, RMC, Heirangoithong, Thingkhangphai, Nungleiband, Tonsen Lamkhai, Umathel, Kumbi, Wabagai Leirak and Malom killings and other cases of atrocity the meeting wanted to know what actions have been taken by the Government against personnel held guilty by judicial probes into RMC, Wabagai Keirak, Kwakeithel, Prabhahini, L Jiban, Kangujam Ojit cases etc.
