Imphal, June 01 2017: The Government has announced Rs 4 lakh as ex-gratia to each of the dead victims of the flood.

Chief Minister N Biren has today reviewed flood situation and progress of relief and repair works with IFCD Minister Letpao Haokip, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Relief & Disaster Management), Commissioner, Works/CAF & PD, Secretary, IFCD and Deputy Commissioners today evening and directed to take necessary action on war footing, informed a release issued by Relief and Disaster Management.

Due to incessant rains accompanied by cyclonic storm "Mora" during the last few days, almost all the districts are witnessing flash floods, damage to river embankment, damages to life and properties, agricultural land, landslides, dwelling houses etc.

All the Deputy Commissioners have been alerted and the Deputy Commissioners along with all the Government employees of various departments such as PWD, IFCD, PHED, Revenue, Health etc are on the job for providing relief, repair and restoration works; medical facilities, food, drinking water etc.

IFCD is making efforts to repair all the damaged embankments at the earliest.

Relief camps have also been opened by various districts for the affected families.

As such, two relief camps are opened in Imphal West district at Uchiwa Wangbal for Mayang Imphal area.

For Imphal East district, six relief camps are opened�two at Mongjam; two at Khurai; one at Kairang and another at Mahabali.

One relief camp each was also opened at Joupi area and Sajik Tampak in Chandel district.

One relief camp is also being opened at Nungei in Thoubal district.

Further, the remaining DCs are also assessing the situation and relief camps may be opened as and when required in any particular area, the release said.

It may be mentioned that one person namely Aselo Wezah from Jessami was swept away by Thesii River.

Two young kids namely Lianlunmang (4) and Kimngaisiam (3) drowned in Lanva river at Churachandpur town.

The dead bodies have been retrieved in Churachandpur whereas in Ukhrul the search is going on.

The Government of Manipur is sanctioning Rs 4 lakh for each person who has died in this calamity as ex-gratia payment, it said.

The Deputy Commissioners have also been directed to make a brief preliminary assessment of the damages in their districts, so that, a preliminary proposal is submitted to Government of India for providing additional financial assistance (AFA) to State Government at the earliest.

The detailed proposal along with full assessment will also be submitted to the Central Government accordingly later on, it said.

State Government is committed to the welfare of the people and district administration is working round the clock for providing relief and repair works so as to normalise the situation at the earliest.

The statement also appealed to the public to remain alert, take necessary precautions and help the Government machineries for restoring normalcy at the earliest.

Meanwhile, information culled from the flood control room said water level at rivers in the valley area has receded.

The amount of rainfall at Kangpokpi last night was recorded at 17 MM while the amount of rainfall at Saikul was put at 20 MM.

Rainfall at Litan was recorded at 20 MM.
