Dr Ranjan checks attendance register of Bishnupur staffers

Imphal, December 29 2022: Health & IPR minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh on Thursday made a surprise visit and checked the attendance register of the employees posted in healthcare facilities in Bishnupur district.

The minister's inspection visit covered Nambol Community Health Centre, Ningthoukhong Primary Health Centre, Kwakta PHC and Moirang CHC, apart from Bishnupur District Hospital.

At Nambol CHC, minister Dr Ranjan assessed condition of the healthcare centre including the building and infrastructures, different departments and sections.

After a brief interaction with the hospital staff and hearing their grievances, the minister advised officials and staffers of the hospital to maintain all the records concerning treatment, medicine, machines, infrastructures, etc.

Minister Ranjan, during his visit to Bishnupur District Hospital, inspected the existing infrastructures and facilities provided in the hospital.

Besides inspecting different departments, he checked the store room, X-Ray room, pharmacy, site for setting up of a 20-bedded ICU room for use in case of spike in number of fresh COVID-19 cases.

At Ningthoukhong Primary Health Centre, the minister examined the attendance register of the staff posted and engaged in the hospital and came across some staff not skipping duty.

In one of the health centres the minister covered, only six out of 14 staffers were found present.

However, there were signatures of all of them, except for a staff on maternity leave, in the attendance register.

The absentee staff include two RBSK doctors.

The minister warned them of consequences if they continue such irresponsible acts.

The minister also expressed dissatisfaction over wasting medicines provided by the government and said that there are several families, who could not buy medicines worth Rs 20 and it is unacceptable that the healthcare staff are wasting those medicines.

The government is providing ORS, antibiotics and other common tablets free of cost to poor patients and the health centre staff should utilise them, he said.

He also asked the department officials to monitor functioning of the health centres further.

Minister Ranjan was accorded warm reception at Moirang CHC by the staff and local people.

After the inspection of the hospital was over, minister had an interaction with the staff and public of the hospital and assured construction of a new building of Moirang CHC.

He also assured to construct a 20-bedded paediatric unit in the hospital very soon and address shortcomings besetting the centre.

During his visit to Kwakta and Moirang CHCs, the minister was accompanied by Moirang MLA Th Shanti Singh.

The inspection team also included Health Services director Dr Shasheekumar Mangang, NHM Manipur mission director Somorjit Ningombam and other health officials.
