IMC panel to scan illegal constructions

Imphal, May 27 2024: Stating that structural constructions in Punshi keithel and Ngari Gali area and the sale of second-hand goods over the Naga Nullah are not permitted by it, Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) has decided to form a committee to look into the matterand take up necessary steps.

Addressing media persons at IMC office, here, on Monday, spokesman of caretaker corporators Hijam Nutanchandra said that following expiration of the current corporators' term in 2021, and their subsequent period of inactivity, they were reassigned to oversee IMC activities.

Despite being reinstated for two years, the government is yet to grant them permission to engage in any activities.

Consequently, it is distressing that certain individuals have begun construction in Punshi Keithel and Ngari Gali area, as well as sale of second-hand goods over Naga Nullah, which is designated as a parking lot.

These actions are entirely unrelated with the responsibilities of the caretaker corporators and are hot sanctioned by the corporation, he said.

Nutanchandra further stated that investigation into the matter would be initiated by constituting a committee.

He also appealed to the chief minister and MAHUD minister to intervene into the matter and take action to dismantle illegal constructions and halt the sale of goods over Naga Nullah.
