World Farmers' Day observed

Farmers have huge responsibility in bringing change to farming activities and thorough discussion on making the state self sufficient in food and lifting the status of farmers is essential, stated director (horticulture & soil conservation) K Debadutta Sharma.
Addressing farmers at the World Farmers' Day observance organised by Loumee Yaipha Lup (LOYALUP), Kangleipak at Manipur Press Club Tuesday, Debadutta said the Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation has been discussing problems and issues of farmers by forming farmers' association with the main objective of improving economic conditions of farmers.
According to K Debadutta, there is huge difference in mode of farming in Manipur from other states of the country.
Apart from this, the state has been lacking resource optimization and untimely implementation of farming policies thereby exposing the farmers to numerous problems for a long time.
It is impossible to resolve problems of farmers overnight but the department has been taking up various measures to resolve the problems gradually, he said.
LOYALUP working president Tourangbam Birjit said that it might be a new body for farmers but keeping an eye resolving problems being faced in agriculture sector, which is the backbone of state's economy.
He also said that farmers need to keep in touch with the departments concerned for availing entitled facilities.
MOMA project officer Kh Nimaichand, Thangjam Agro Industries Private Limited managing director, Thangjam Joykumar and associate professor Thongbam Ibotombi of DM College of Arts also attended the event.
