Imphal, June 13 2024:
Ahead of the Protest Day on June 14, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) on Thursday called upon the people of the state to take a united stand against divisive policies of the union government.
In a statement, AMUCO recalled that the Protest Day was launched to denounce a particular clause of the extension of ceasefire agreement signed between Government of India and NSCN-IM on June 14, 2001 in Bangkok, Thailand that threatened the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Since then, AMUCO has been observing the day at different places making aware the people about the divisive agenda of the government of India.
Considering the ongoing conflict in the state, AMUCO will not hold public event for the 23rd observance this year.
Nevertheless, the stand against divisive policies of the central government remains unchanged, the statement asserted, while urging the public to take a united stand.
For decades, the government of India has been harassing the people of Manipur by arresting them under different Act for holding protests against security excesses.
Today, the hidden agendas and divisive policies are coming to the forefront consequently emboldening the infuriated the people to raise voices of dissent.
AMUCO contended that as an outcome of inciting communal ill-will and causing inter-community tensions with the ultimate objective to suppress the insurgency movement in the northeast region, some armed organisations got dissolved, entered into peace talks with the government and many cadres surrendered.
However, such allurement and divisive policies had minimal impact in Manipur subsequently leading to the intelligence agencies to chalk up the strategy of inter-community conflict through the ceasefire extension agreement with NSCN-IM by adding the clause "without territorial limit", the statement elaborated.
Well aware of the strategy, AMUCO put in efforts to bring understanding among the people and averted ethnic conflict among the indigenous people.
Organisations that stand for the unity and integrity of Manipur did not blame any community and it was a major setback for the Central government.
AMUCO realised the strategy in advance and organised a mega rally in Imphal on August 4, 1997 with participation of around 5 lakh people and took a pledge to remain united and stand for the unity and integrity of Manipur.
After failing in their initial attempt, the Central government used another community to materfalise their agenda which sparked the current crisis in the state.
There is no visible effort on the part of the Central government to resolve the crisis though it has been continuing for more than one year.
Instead, they seem to be aiding one side and using to further their agenda of suppressing the armed movement in Manipur.
They do not care about the lives of the people in suppressing the armed movement.
So far, they have been ignoring their duties and responsibilities in this crisis and AMUCO will continue to protest this divisive policy of the Central government, the statement added.
