Imphal, June 12 2024:
Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) general secretary Samom Dhurba has demanded the Direc -tor General of Police (DGP) and the security advisor to resign from their respective posts on their own volition.
In a press meet held at the motivation hall of Uripok Sorbon Thingel Public Library, here, on Wednesday, Dhurba said that it was initially believed that both the DGP and the security advisor were capable but their performances over the past one year have shown otherwise.
As such, time has come for both of them to resign from their respective posts on their volition.
Recounting the public demand for handing over the control of unified command to the chief minister, he highlighted the numerous security lapses which have occurred ever since the conflict broke out.
He continued that ambushing the CM's security convoy is equivalent to attacking the chief minister and as such, the armed Kukis who are attacking and threatening the integrity of the state should be declared as terrorists.
Dhurba continued that while the conflict is still simmering in the state, spread of the violence to Jiribam is highly condemnable.
He then said that the government should help the displaced people in Jiribam to resettle at their own places at the earliest, while assuring that UAL will extend all possible help from its side.
Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup advisor Konsam Puinabati, who also attended the press meet, strongly condemned the repeated attempts to arrest the village volunteers who are trying to fend off the attacks of Kuki militants near the hills and foothill areas.
She continued that the Meetei community never started the conflict till date but is merely defending itself against the activities of the armed Kukis.
As such she demanded the security forces to immediately stop trying to arrest village volunteers and registering FIRs against them.
