Sit-in demands disturbance-free education

Teachers, non-teaching staff and students of Saraswati Institute of Management and Para-Medical Sciences, Pangei staged a sit-in demonstration demanding that there should be no threat and unwarranted restrictions on educational institutions.
Participants of the sit-in staged at the gate of institute held placards reading "Stop monetary demand to educational institutions", "Make Education Free Zone", "Education is the Greatest Treasure" and "Education Shapes Civilization" among others.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines, Saraswati administrative officer Monika Moirangthem, pointed out that the ongoing ethnic crisis and recent storms and floods are having disastrous impact in all sectors, including education.
She mentioned that the private institution has been offering free enrollment to internally displaced students and supporting many students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who cannot afford education outside the state.
Despite financial challenges due to unpaid fees from some students for over 5-6 months, the institute continues to provide education, the administrative officer informed.
Expressing concern, she noted unwanted situation of the institute frequently facing extortion demands from various sections, and appealed to authorities to reconsider such demands and create a free zone for education.
