Ukhrul, February 08 2025:
Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) has voiced its displeasure at chief minister N Biren Singh's failure to address the issue concerning the public demand for revocation of Ukhrul DC Zuringla Kengoo's transfer order, declaring that the matter has now been placed in the hands of the public.
"As a responsible mediator, TSL has done everything in its power to advocate for the people's demand.
However, with the authorities failing to respond, we now place the matter in the hands of the public," said TSL president Thingreiphi Lungharwoshi in a statement on Saturday.
She then urged every people of Ukhrul district to stand united against the injustice and to join in solidarity to uphold the collective voice of the people, and forewarned that the chief minister and the chief secretary shall be held solely accountable for any consequences that may arise from their failure to address the issue.
According to Thingreiphi, TSL, in the interest of the people of Ukhrul, had made every effort in pursuing the collective demand.
She related that CM Biren had assured of reconsidering the order during a meeting with the district's women league on January 31 in Imphal.
Subsequently, the public agitation was suspended from February 1, 2025."This was done in the good faith of the chief minister 's assurance, as the chief secretary was also out of station at the time," she said.
She, however, bemoaned that after the chief secretary 's on February 5, TSL sought an appointment with him on the same day and again on February 6 but was denied.
"Despite our repeated efforts and appeals from multiple stakeholders, the chief secretary deliberately avoided meeting us.
This refusal to engage with public representatives is not only unacceptable but also raises serious concerns about the administration's accountability to the people it serves," she contended.
Thingreiphi further noted: "While we acknowledge that transfers and postings are a part of routine administrative processes, the overwhelming demand from the people of Ukhrul to retain Zuringla Kengoo as the Deputy Commissioner - especially during these challenging and chaotic times - should have been given due consideration" She also decried the manner in which a senior officer was ordered to vacate office within just 24 hours, stating the same reflects an insensitive and arbitrary exercise of authority.
"The lack of due process and the complete disregard for public concerns
in this decision is deeply alarming," she added.
