CM vows functional CCpur medical college

Imphal/CCpur, May 06 2022: Chief Minister N Biren has informed that the Churachandpur Medical College, the Only medical college in the hill districts of the state, which is under construction in Churachandpur district will be inaugurated and made functional as part of the 100 Days Action Plan of his government.

The chief minister made the announcement during a felicitation programme organised in his honour by Zomi Council at YPA General Headquarters Hall, Hiangtam Lamka on Friday.

He was accorded a warm welcome for the initiatives taken up by him for the development of the state during his first term as the chief minister.

Addressing the gathering, Biren said that completion of the college main building, which will be a magnificent structure, will however take some time.

He also said that Rs 115 crore has already been sanctioned under the North East Road Construction Development Scheme for the construction of Henglep Road.

Highlighting a series of initiatives taken up for the district as part of the 100-Day Action Plan of his government, the Chief Minister said that under Jal Jeevan Mission, efforts are on to provide potable water to every household.

Digging of tube-wells at 70 places including 50 in Churachandpur and 20 in Pherzawl districts is being targeted for completion within the 100 Days programme.

Transit accommodation for doctors, nurses and teachers, an amusement park, solar power system for the Churachandpur District Hospital to ensure 24x7 power supply and a Model Anganwadi centre will be inaugurated among others, he revealed and informed that amusement parks are being constructed in seven districts out of which the parks in Ukhrul, Senapati and Churachandpur will be inaugurated within the 100 Days programme.

Stating that one can see a high level of political maturity and intellect among the Zomi people, Biren lauded the Zomi community for standing for unity and oneness the state endured tumultuous situation.

Highlighting the ill-effects of drug menace in the society, the CM also said that many young and innocent children have become orphaned due to substance abuse.

He expressed grief and shock over the issue and asserted that this is the reason why he started the war on drugs.

The initiative was not taken up for his benefit and he doesn't have any enmity with anyone nor has any intention of creating enmity with anyone, he added.

Making a clarion call for all to join hands in the war against drugs to save young children, the CM said, "We have to fight together against drugs, poppy plantation and drug smuggling".

The CM also applauded Zomi Mothers' Association for its contribution to the society, and said that the mothers' organisations have done a lot by supporting the fight in the past.

He sought their further support and stressed the need for making the war on drugs a mass movement.

Education minister Thounaojam Basanta, transport minister Kashim Vashum, Churachandpur MLA LM Khaute, Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte, Henglep MLA Letzamang Haokip, Singhat MLA Chinlunthang, ex-MLA Ginsuanhau and Zomi Council chairman John K Ngaihte also attended the felicitation programme among others.

Cultural items were presented by Vaiphei Cultural Troupe, Thangkhal Cultural Troupe, Paite Cultural Troupe and Zou Cultural Troupe as a part of the programme.

Children of Only Grace Home also presented a dance during the programme.
