Imphal, March 03 2025:
Thadou Students' Association (TSA-GHQ) has welcomed the recent steps taken by the Government of India to address the prolonged ethnic conflict in Manipur.
The proclamation of Article 356 on February 13, which placed the Manipur Legislative Assembly under suspended animation following the resignation of chief minister N Biren, has renewed hope for peace and stability in the state, a TSA statement said.
TSA expressed optimism following the high-level review meeting chaired by union home minister Amit Shah on March 1, in New Delhi, where key measures were outlined to address the security situation in Manipur.
The association described these initiatives as a crucial step toward resolving the crisis gripping the state since May 2023.TSA particularly welcomed the union home minister's directive to ensure free movement on all roads in Manipur from March 8, and to take strict action against any obstruction.
It described the decision as a great relief for the Thadou people, who have been among the most affected and yet silenced victims of the crisis.
The association reiterated that it has worked relentlessly alongside Thadou leaders to restore peace and normalcy.
The association also appreciated the government's action plan against extortion and its commitment to strengthening border security, stating that these measures will significantly contribute to regional safety and stability.
Additionally, TSA commended the decision to dismantle networks involved in drug trafficking, emphasising that this step should be supported by all sections of society.
It warned that the drug menace has had severe socio-economic repercussions and that a drug-free Manipur is essential for building a peaceful and prosperous future.
TSA expressed hope that the government's action plans will bring lasting peace and ensure the safety of all indigenous communities in Manipur.
It also reiterated the Thadou Convention Declaration of 2024, which asserted that Thadou is a distinct ethnic group and not part of or subordinate to Kuki.
TSA stated that any organisation that misrepresents Thadou as part of Kuki is illegitimate and does not represent the interests of the Thadou people.
