CM appeals to lawyers to call off strike

Imphal, December 21 2012:
While appealing to the striking lawyers to call off their stir in the interest of general public, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh informed that the State government has been urging the Union Government to provide another 4 Judges to the High Court of Manipur.
In response to a call attention motion raised by MLA L Ibomcha in the State Assembly Thursday, the Chief Minister said that the issue has been discussed with All Manipur Bar Association a number of times.
Reminders have also been sent to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.
But as of now there has been no response from the Union Ministry on allotting four Judges to the State of Manipur.
However, there are reports coming that the Union Ministry is processing to provide four more Judges for Manipur.
Raising the Calling Attention Motion, MLA L Ibomcha pointed out that All Manipur Bar Association has been on a cease work strike since December 4 demanding recruitment of 7 Judges from Manipur in the Manipur High Court which is to be set up.
As a result, all sorts of court cases have stopped.
The MLA also asked what steps have been taken up by the State government to cover up the existing gap.
Supporting the motion, MLA Dr I Ibohalbi stated that the cease work strike of the lawyers has completely paralysed the judiciary system in the State.
Their demand is to get back the excess 4 Judges wrongfully provided to Assam.
Responding to another Calling Attention Motion raised by MLA Kh Joykishan today, Minister for Social Welfare AK Mirabai clarified that there has been no misuse of funds provided ICDS project.
The project is being implemented in the State through the Social Welfare Department.
The Department has been providing benefits to the people of the State under the scheme since its implementation in 1975 .
