Two UGs 'rearrested' in POCSO case

Imphal, September 20 2022:
Imphal East women police station formally arrested two accused, who had already been arrested by Lamlai PS in connection with an insurgency case, for a POCSO case on Tuesday.
The two accused have been identified as Leishangthem Khomei (53) s/o (L) Bidhu of Haraorou Mayai Leikai and Khagembam Sanjoy alias Athoi alias Pambei (28) s/o Kh Manglemba of Kumbi Sitapur Maning Leikai.
Among the two accused, Sanjoy has been staying in a hospital due to an ailment.
On Tuesday, a team of Lamlai PS produced Khomei in the court of Special Judge (NIA) .
Women PS Imphal East then submitted a prayer to the court to formally arrest the duo in connection with a POCSO case.
After listening to the submissions of the Additional PR the Court observed that they are needed for investigating the case and as such, approved the prayer.
After formally arresting the duo, Women PS produced Khomei before Special Judge (POCSO), while Sanjoy attended the hearing via video conference from JNIMS.
Women PS then made a prayer to the court requesting for remand of both to police custody till September 21 in connection with the POCSO case.
The two accused were charged of penetrative sexual assault on a minor girl.
They were provided with the option of retaining their own lawyers for the case or to seek free legal aid counsel.
Both their families were aware of their arrest in connection with the POCSO case.
After listening to the submissions of both sides and thoroughly examining the records submitted by the IO of the case, the court remanded the two accused to police custody till September 21, and ordered that they should be produced before the court by 2pm of the said date.
