Imphal, November 12 2011:
"Manipur is full of puzzle.
Time has come to change our mindset in order to sort it out for the generation to come.
Otherwise the very community would vanished," says Kennedy Heigrujam, a young vocalist of Manipur based rock band--The Dirty Strikes, responding to a question on why should we vote.
"So we need to vote for a change" .
This 23 year old college going student in Imphal has a clear and loud message to vote for a change in the blockade hit border state prior to his performance at a rock concert held here under the aegis of Spotless Event-the event management wing of KokSamLai Solutions Private Limited in collaboration with its associate brand 'GoManipur' on Thursday night.
The show aims to create awareness on the importance of choosing the right representative in the upcoming assembly poll early next year.
Interestingly Manipur became the first State in the country to use the popular social networking website Facebook as a platform to woo young voters.
When asked why 'Vote for Change', Entrepreneur Harjeet Sinam(27) of KokSamLai Solutions Pvt Ltd, one of the brain behind the show said, "People here are frustrated with the unwanted happenings.
How long we'll be facing bandh or blockades.
We're facing various types of atrocities which is not created by one person alone but all of us.
So together we can change Manipur for the better by choosing the right and able person in the election" .
A young Law College student P Ranita in her mid twenties, who came to watch the show braving the chilly November wind ,also echoed Harjeet's message for a change, saying "Let's put a full refrain from undemocratic means in the forthcoming election as we're looking to Vote for change" .
Meanwhile, Dirty Striker-Kenndy tries to reflect some his thoughts in their songs, as for instance, present day environment of Manipur.
'Like a puzzle', their kick start number of the show, is all about the chaos that's happening in Imphal.
Other sequences such as 'Leave us alone or give us a break' put forth an example that forming their band can also save them from drugs, a total shift of paradigm even though it sound like anti-parental message.
After all the vote for change message continued to jam through the chilly night with the evergreen Pheonix and rated Fringes belted out a number of non-head banging sentimental classic covers to thrill the audience along with few more heart throbbing tracks from The Wishess besides Brothers also feat, Jagdish aka Elvis of Manipur etc.
