Imphal, October 25 2009: Two persons gunned down by Imphal East police commandos last night at Naharup Mayai Leikai have turned out to be a contractor and a brick labourer with their identities established today.

Claiming that the brick labourer was innocent and not an underground activist, local people rose demanding appropriate punishment to the police commandos involved in the killing.

Police commandos have gunned down, the two persons last night at about 10.30 pm at Naharup Mayai Leikai in Imphal east district.

They have been identified as Moirangthem Tenjing (35), son of late Moirangningthou of Kongba Kshetri Leikai and Khanam Shantanu (40) son of late Tomba of Irilbung Kalika.

According to family sources, Tenjing was a contractor having four children while Shantanu, a brick labourer, was engaged by Tenjing in the construction of a toilet at his house.

The dead bodies are lying at RIMS morgue as families with the support of locals refused to accept stating that they were innocent and not militants.

They charged the police commandos with killing them in fake encounter.

Decrying the killing of the innocent labourer, locals of Irilbung Kalika formed a joint action committee against the killing of Shantanu and staged a sit-in protest at the locality.

Subadani, wife of Shantanu told that her husband was a brick labourer currently engaging in the house construction work of the Tenjing killed together by police commandos.

Yesterday, Tenjing visited their house for clearing labour charge.

After having some talk at home, they went out together as sending off Tenjing.

Since then Shanatanu failed to back home.

After around half an hour since they left the house, locals could heard several gun firing sounds and later today, the dead body of Shantanu was found lying at RIMS morgue.

The JAC while pressing the government to award appropriate punishment to the police commandos involved in the killing has decided to lodge a complaint with the chief minister tomorrow.

They JAC also decided to launch intensified forms of agitations if the demand put forward by the JAC fail to meet by the government.
