Imphal, September 23 2026: The Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) has demanded immediate removal of the present Controller of Examinations of the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) .

In a statement, SSUM said appointing an inexperienced person who lacks professional ethics to such a crucial post that decides the fate of thousands of students is the most erroneous decision of the Government.

It alleged that the present Controller has failed to maintain secrecy of examinations and to clear pending works, which poses a serious threat to society and the student community.

Questioning how such a person can conduct major public examinations, SSUM alleged that for the first time in COHSEM's history, all question setters for the upcoming examinations were summoned together and made to disclose the questions prepared by them.

Terming the act as highly dangerous and unpatriotic, the union said in Manipur parents often trace question setters to arrange tuition.

Openly revealing their identities creates a grave risk of question leak, it warned.

The SSUM urged the Chairman and members of COHSEM to take necessary steps to protect the Council's reputation.

At a time when the State is already passing through a volatile situation, any act that harasses students must be stopped, it added.
