Imphal, December 20 2024:
Kom Tribe Organisation Valley (KTOV) urged the authorities concerned to act fast to materialise the resolution adopted by the Hills Area Committee (HAC) for setting up of administrative committees in the hill districts pending conduct of elections to the local bodies.
In a release, KTOV publicity and information assistant secretary T Torngampa Kom commended the unanimous decision by HAC of the Manipur Legislative Assembly on October 14, 2024 to form administrative committees for administration of the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) as a stop-gap arrangement till conduct of the ADC polls.
"It is believed that with much concern on the genuine grievances and suffering of the hill people at this critical juncture, the HAC revitalising for the future well-being of the people in the hills, came up with an alternative idea of forming the Ad-hoc body only for the advantages of the general public in the Manipur hill districts," Torngampa Kom said, while expressing that hoping for ADC polls amid the volatile situation in the state would be akin to a 'lazy fellow waiting for an apple to fall into his mouth'.
Urging the authorities concerned to constitute the administrative committee proposed without further delay, he said that the state government should also find means and ways to conduct the much waited ADC polls at the earliest possible.
As Kom is a minority tribe in the state and don't have any representative even in local self-government, the state's authority may extend an opportunity to include two members from the community in the formation of the administrative committee of the hill districts, urged the secretary.
