Weapons, bombs recovered as search operations continue

Several weapons including explosives were recovered during search operations conducted by police and central forces in different parts of the state on Friday.
According to a police report, a combined team of 20 Jat Regiment, Imphal East district police, Kangpokpi district police and Yaingangpokpi police conducted search operation in Thamnapokpi Uyok hill range under Yaingangpokpi police station from 5 am till 1.30pm, recovering weapons and explosive cached atop a hillock about 500 metres from the foot hill.
The weapons recovered included 13 long range mortars/rail guns, four Burmese iron rod IEDs, one modified lathode grenade launcher/gun, one HK G3 rifle, one Japanese 303 rifle, one 303 rifle bolt, four improvised 303 rifles, one .22 pistol, one No.36 grenade, 24 Burmese IEDs, one local IED, five HK G3 live rounds, 75 AK-47 ammunition, 34 rounds of 5.56 mm, five 12 bore rounds, one HK G3 magazine, one 303 rifle magazine, one .22 pistol magazine, two Chinese radio sets, five empty cases of lathode grenade and four empty shells of Pompi bomb.
The seized items have been handed over to Yaingangpokpi PS for further legal action.
Meanwhile, a joint team of Imphal West district police, BSF, CRPF and 33 Assam Rifles carried out cordon and search operation in Moidangpok Khunou area under Patsoi PS from 7.30am till 9.05 am during which 95 houses were searched and 285 people verified.
A combined team of Jiribam district police and CRPF also carried out area domination and patrolling in Jakuradhur Part-1 & 2 under Borobekra Police Station from 3pm till 4.30pm as another joint team of Kangpokpi district police and CRPF conducted similar exercise in New Saikul village under Saikul PS from 3pm till 5pm.However, there is no report of arrest or recovery of weapons in both operations.
Arms and ammunition, including IEDs made of Burmese iron rods, were seized in a three day operation conducted by joint security team in Chanung Top area in the fringe area of Imphal East bordering Kangpokpi district.
According to sources, the Army, in collaboration with Kangpokpi district police and Imphal East district police, launched a three day search and recovery operation in the fringe area of Chanung Top, Imphal East district.
The operation, initiated on Wednesday, followed reliable inputs indicating the presence of a substantial amount of arms and ammunition in the area.
The operation employed trained explosive detection Army dogs and infantry patrol dogs.
