Every politician should honour June martyrs: RK Anand

Imphal, June 18 2021: Stating that the June 18 uprising of 2001 was a spontaneous response from the public who loved their motherland, ex-MLA of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC RK Anand said that every politician should remember the uprising, understand its value and pay tributes to the 18 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the integrity of the state.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the ex-MLA observed the day at his home at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai by offering floral tributes to the photos of the 18 martyrs on Friday.

Briefly interacting with some newspersons on the occasion, RK Anand said that the people of the state rose up against the threat to the state's integrity when the central government extended the ceasefire agreement reached with the NSCN-IM with the controversial clause 'without territorial limit' .

Reminding that the public fiercely opposed the move consequently forcing the Centre to withdraw the particular clause, he said the uprising should be given political recognition.

It was unfortunate that some chief ministers did not attend the observance.

Everybody should attend the observance, he added.

BJP Manipur Pradesh Kishan Morcha vice-president Mutum Dhaneshwar, who is also the in-charge of BJP Imphal West and Imphal City, along with other party leaders participated in the programme.
