AMUCO accuses Centre of undermining state

Imphal, February 12 2025: Condemning the central government's alleged indifferent attitude to suffering of the people and undermining the role and sacrifice of those who are defending Manipur from adversary elements, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) cautioned the centre that as the present generation are descendants of the Manipuri forefathers who valiantly fought the then mighty British rulers, the people would not be intimidated by any force.

AMUCO celebrated its 32nd foundation day at the Kwakeithel Akham Leikai community hall on Wednesday.

The commemorative event began with flag of the apex body hoisted by its president Ph Nando Luwang, followed by offering of floral tributes to photos of departed members.

Speaking on the occasion, Nando Luwang affirmed that as the organisation was established with the stated goal of safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur, there is no question of deviating from the said objective in case of any threat posed to the state's territorial integrity.

He further explained that despite AMUCO's commitment to holding the state s unity, it has faced numerous obstacles due to the Government of India s attempts to undermine the unity and integrity of Manipur.

"These challenges, posed by the central government, caused hindrances to cohesion and stability in the state," he said.

Nando also accused the Government of India of plotting to create division among the ethnic communities, as well as weaken insurgents involved in defending Manipur.

He further claimed the government is working to fragment political parties in the state and sow division and mistrust among the members of a single political party thereby weakening the legislators.

"All these actions by the central government clearly indicate that the government of India is not only attempting to destroy Manipur but also seeking to obliterate the state," he said, while adding that the people of Manipur are fully aware of the central government's manoeuvers amid the ongoing crisis that has plagued the state since May 3, 2023.The AMUCO president further alleged that the Government of India is also trying to divide the state's politicians during this crisis, pointing out that the central government knows very well that unity among the indigenous people of Manipur will thwart its hidden agenda.

Blaming the Government of India for plunging Manipur into complete chaos, he alleged that the same is being carried out through deliberate efforts to create a politically unstable environment in the state.

'It is deeply unfortunate that the government is attempting to arrest the village volunteers who have stepped forward to protect their homeland from the ongoing attacks by armed Kuki narco-terrorists," he lamented.

According to the AMUCO leader, regardless of whether the Government of India places the state under suspended animation, imposes President's Rule, or elects a new government, the situation in the state remains a political concern.

Regarding government actions against village volunteers, Nando Luwang highlighted that the people of Manipur firmly stand by the village volunteers, asserting that they cannot be arrested, nor their weapons confiscated.

"The people of the state are standing firm in their commitment to protect the indigenous Meitei community," he declared and appealed to everyone to come together and safeguard the village volunteers.

The function was also attended by Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president Soraisam Memcha, Federation of Haomee secretary general Yazing Vicisy, All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association president Yumkhaibam Kunjarani, All Manipur Meitei Pangal Clubs' Organisation president Yumkhaibam Hayatur Rahman and Kabui Mothers' Association president Atongpi Kamei as presidium members.
