Ministers assure job, road project to Kwatha villagers

Moreh, November 11 2022: The 5th Kwatha Festival-2022, which is being organised by Kwatha Youth Club, began from Friday at Kwatha village in Tengnoupal district located along Manipur section of India-Myanmar border.

The festival would go on for three days.

Horticulture & soil conservation minister Letpao Haokip formally opened the festival in the presence of CAF & PD minister L Susindro Meitei, Kwatha village chairman Angom Amu Meitei, Tengnoupal DC Yumnam Ranjan and Major Sasikumar of 20 Assam Rifles.

Leaders of several CSOs of Manipur and from Moreh town also attended the opening ceremony.

Attending as special guest, minister Letpao Haokip declared that the road leading to Kwatha village from NH-102 (Imphal-Moreh) road will be upgraded to double lane and appealed to villagers settling on both sides of the road to extend cooperation in smooth execution of the project.

He also assured of discussing with officials of various departments for providing job to at least one unemployed youth in every family of Kwatha village and advised the unemployed youth of the village to submit relevant documents.

While stating that he never expected existence of Meetei inhabited village in the interior part of the state that too around 300/400 years old, Letpao Haokip assured of protecting the border village at his best level.

He also said that Kwatha village possesses documents including gazette notification even from the time of British rule.

According to minister Letpao Haokip, festivals like Kwatha Festival will strengthen love and understanding among different communities settling in Manipur since time immemorial.

Earlier, minister Letpao Haokip met one 101 years old Takhellambam Tampak Leima of Kwatha village and interacted with the oldest woman in the village.

On learning that Tampak Leima is yet to get government's old age pension, Letpao Haokip extended financial assistance to the old woman and asked DC Tengnoupal to initiate relevant process for providing old age pension to all the elderly people in Kwatha village who have crossed 60 years of age.

Later, Moreh Working Journalists Union also extended financial assistance to Tampak Leima.

On the other hand, Tengnoupal DC Yumnam Ranjan informed media persons that he will adopt five poor families of Kwatha village and every effort will be made to provide ration card, gas connection and other facilities to families who are yet to get benefit of government schemes.

Meanwhile, minister Susindro assured of beginning construction work on a shelter house in Kwatha village, which could accommodate 50-70 people, within three days.
