Imphal, July 09 2024:
Asserting that the visit of Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to Manipur was an eyewash to fool the people and undermine efforts of restoring peace and tranquillity in the state by making contradictory statements to the Meetei and Kuki communities, CAF&PD minister L Susindro claimed that there is evidence of the Congress party scheming to destabilise Manipur.
Addressing media persons at his Khurai Sajor Leikai residence, here, on Tuesday, Susindro said that it would not be an exaggeration to assert that Rahul Gandhi visited Manipur to undermine the peace-building efforts and reignite tension among the people.
The Congress party's role in the current state crisis is becoming glaringly clear each day, he claimed.
Asserting that there is evidence of the Congress trying to destabilise Manipur, he said that the memorandum submitted by ITLF to Rahul Gandhi specifically requested the implementation of the Congress manifesto committing to explore political settlement.
Minister Susindro said that he had previously called for excluding the assurance regarding separate administration from the Congress manifesto before the elections.
However, since the demand of ITLF aligns with the Congress manifesto, further discussion on the matter is deemed unnecessary, he maintained.
Minister Susindro also said that people of the state are currently suffering as the previous Congress government, while signing the SoO agreement, had included people from across the border, and its failure to remove the free movement regime (FMR) .
He affirmed that BJP will oppose any attempt by the Congress to turn Manipur into a 'Dharmasala' where the Congress had allowed entry of individuals from across the border.
He asserted that no Myanmar nationals should be permitted to enter Manipur and obtain citizenship as could be comprehended from the BJP government actively working to regulate border entry by implementing the NRC in the state.
During times resembling war, it is inevitable that everyone suffers.
It is very unfortunate that PM Modi is being portrayed as remaining silent on the current situation in Manipur.
In reality, PM Modi has addressed the crisis in the state on multiple occasions.
However, it is unreasonable to expect the country's leader to constantly speak exclusively about Manipur.
If talking alone could save Manipur, perhaps all Manipuri leaders should cease all other activities and focus solely on talking about the state, he remarked.
