Joykisan for strengthening Meira Paibi movement

Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykisan has stated that the state can be completely rid of drug menace only when the Meira Paibi movement in the state regains its former strength and prowess.
Speaking at the inaugural function of a Meira Snang (shed) of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba, Lourung Purel Leikai Branch on Friday; Joykisan recounted that the Meira Paibi movement first came into being in 1980s when the youth of the state were drowning in substance abuse.
The then Meira Paibi members braved the cold nights to save the future pillars of the state.
However, the present Meira Paibi members seem to lack the coordination that was once displayed by their predecessors.
As such, the movement has slowed down over the years.
Presently, the state has been plagued by various drug related issues.
Thus, if the Meira Paibi movement were to regain the strength and prowess of the past, it could help the state in annihilating the drug menace, he contended, while stressing the need of concerted efforts in this regard.
He continued that the Meira Paibi movement is now a part of history, which is a proud moment for all concerned.
Women of other states are slowly learning to be independent like the women of our state, he added.
Regarding the inability to blacktop some roads in Thangmeiband AC, the MLA said that contractors have been unable to execute the road projects in the constituency after completing the WBM.
The reason for this is the non-disbursement of funds by the state government for the said purpose.
The work order for the roads was issued in 2019 at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore.
However, as only some lakh of rupees have been paid, contractions fear they might suffer losses after completing the blacktopping works.
The amount disbursed till date is not even enough to match the security deposits made by the contractors.
As such, he urged the state government to stand by its words and disburse the money to the contractors at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Joykisan along with TAKDO offered to grant loans to contractors for the blacktopping if they (contractors) do not have the money for investment.
Even then, if they truly cannot carry out the blacktopping works, they need to cancel the work order, he said, while adding that he will take up the works in the interest of the denizens of the constituency.
The MLA said that development works are being carried out as usual in the constituency even during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Construction of several structures has been completed including Guigailong community hall and Thangmeiband Model Club community hall, while NLC Club Sinam Leikai and Lalambung Achouba community hall are nearing completion and will be inaugurated in October and November respectively.
Additionally, the biggest community hall in the constituency is being constructed at Kangjabi Leirak and a community hall in Khoyathong is also underway, he conveyed.
Joykisan then commented that there is no need for backtracking when it comes to developmental works.
However, anyone who has come forward to serve the people should mind their own business.
One should stop being critical of others' works, he remarked.
