IBSD, World Vision celebrate Women's Day

Imphal, March 08 2022:
Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) organised International Women's Day 2022 under the theme "Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow" on Tuesday in hybrid mode.
A release of IBSD informed that the programme was organised to commemorate the achievements of women in the field of cultural, political, science and technology, medicine, etc., and also to accelerate women's equality.
It was participated by more than 250 scientists, students, researchers, etc., both online and offline.
IBSD director Prof Pulok K Mukherjee highlighted various activities taken up by IBSD to improve the socio-economic condition of the region.
He also appreciated the role of women from all walks of life in building up the society.
As part of the event, informative and interactive sessions in connection with gender equality and the role of women in nation build ing were delivered by resource persons including North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homeopathy, Meghalaya director Dr Nee-ta Mahesekar, 2nd Manipur Rifles commanding officer Victoria Yengkhom, former dean of School of Life Sciences, Manipur University Prof GA Shantibala Devi and Department of Science and Technology director Homila Hongrei.
On the other hand, World Vision India, Imphal West Area Development Programme celebrated the 'International Women's Day 2022 at Imoinu Shanglen, Lamboi Khongnangkhong in collaboration with LIMCO.
The celebration was attended IMC (Ward No 27) corporator Herojit Ngangomba as chief guest, retired managing director of Sericulture Co-operative Society Thoudam Surjaboro Singh as functional president, Imphal West ADP manager Asosii Loli and state awardee (handicrafts) Salam Premila Devi as guests of honour while Manipur High Court advocate Th Rajkishore was special guest.
Herojit highlighted the role of women in the society for which reason Manipur is known as the "Ema Leibak" and encouraged the women to nurture their kids for a better society.
As part of the event, Salam Premila Devi highlighted her achievements in handicrafts and encouraged all the women present to keep pursuing their dreams until they reach a higher platform like herself.
She further appreciated the effort of World Vision India in helping the most vulnerable women to empower themselves in different fields.
Meanwhile, Asosii Loli remarked that Gender Equality and Social Inclusion are the driving force for World Vision to promote human transformation by reaching the most vulnerable children and adults.
"As we celebrate International Women's Day today, this is the time for us to uphold women's achievements, recognise challenges, and focus greater attention on women's rights and gender equality," the ADP manager said.
Regional coordinator for World Vision India - UNICEF Vaccination project T Christina also highlighted the importance of vaccination and Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) and encouraged everyone to get vaccinated.
She further distributed pamphlets on CAB to all participants of the programme.
A total of about 140 women from different localities of Uripok and Sagolband attended the programme during which gifts were also presented to all the women participants.
