Suspected Kuki militants abduct two for ransom

Jiribam, October 07 2024:
Five armed persons suspected to be Kuki militants forcibly entered the workplace of M/s Vicent Nameirakpam, a construction company operating near Makhabasti, close to Shani Mandir along the JT Road in Jiribam on October 5 around 12.30 pm and abducted two employees of the company.
The armed persons also disrupted the operations and abducted two employees namely Bishnu Barman (33) of Kalamati, Cooch Behar, West Bengal, and Narhari Barman (41) of Kamrup, Assam.
According to complaint report filed to the police, the armed men threatened and asked the employees to drop them at JT Road in the company vehicle, a DI truck bearing registration number AS 11DC-9301 .
Bishnu Barman, who works as an operator of an HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) machine under M/s Vicent Nameirakpam, and Narhari Barman were forcibly taken by the miscreants.
After travelling for around 5 km, the perpetrators released Narhari Barman along with the vehicle while detaining Bishnu Barman.
They asked Narhari to arrange ransom amount of Rs 15 lakh in exchange for the safe return of Bishnu Barman.
The abductors also called the younger brother of Bishnu on his mobile phone and issued a stern warning, threatening of "dire consequences" in case the ransom is not paid.
A case has been registered at Jiribam police station and investigation has been initiated.
