Imphal, January 05 2025: At least seven houses were reduced to cinders after a fire broke out at Moreh Mission Veng in Tengnoupal district on Saturday around 10.30 pm.

According to a police report, the fire incident also caused burn injuries to one Letminsei Chongloi and his wife, with the injured man rushed to Churachandpur District Hospital for treatment and his wife at Moreh Primary Health Centre.

Upon receiving report of the inferno, a team of Manipur Fire Services rushed to the site with two water tankers to contain the blaze.

Two teams from Myanmar Fire Services also arrived and assisted in extinguishing the flames.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by short circuit.

On the other-hand, PRO IGAR (S) informed that the Mission Veng inferno, on the intervening the night of January 4-5, engulfed 15-20 houses and caused extensive property damage.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit, with its intensity further exacerbated by 6-8 exploding LPG cylinders, the PRO said in a release, adding that Assam Rifles, in coordination with the fire brigade, swiftly responded to the inferno in the densely populated area.

Their efforts successfully contained the fire by 1:30 am on January 5, averting further destruction.

The couple, who suffered burn injuries, were provided immediate first aid by Assam Rifles personnel, said the release.
