ASHA convention held at Shekinuh Inn, Tamenglong

Tamenglong, March 27 2015 : ADM Tamenglong and who is also the Chief Executive Officer, Tamenglong Autonomous District Council Joseph Pauline on Friday said that Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) are bridging the gap between health department and general public of Tamenglong.

She said ASHA workers are working from grassroots level and rendering voluntary services.

The ADM was speaking as chief guest during the ASHA Convention on Friday at Shekinuh Inn, Tamenglong District Headquarters.

The one day first ever ASHA Convention was organized by District Health Mission Society, DHMS Tamenglong.

Encouraging the Tamenglong Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Pauline said that the role being played by ASHAs had helped in saving many pregnant mothers in the villages.

He also appealed all the ASHAs to continue rendering selfless service as "serving humanity is serving God" .

In his presidential speech, Dr.Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer, Tamenglong and Mission Director DHMS Tamenglong said that the aims of the first ever ASHA convention was to acknowledge the hard work put in by the volunteers and also to redress grievances besides giving support.

In hill areas, ASHAs are facing untold hardship despite of their hard work.

Leaving behind their families, ASHAs take the sick/pregnant mothers to Primary Health Centres which are far away from their villages, he said.

During the function, the District Health Mission Society, DHMS Tamenglong also gave awards to seven best performing ASHAs.

Those who received the awards include Lungthanliu Pamei working under District Hospital Tamenglong; Nemkhohoi Singson working under Oinamlong PHC; Phensingliu working under CHC Nungba; Chongbuanliu Kamei working under PHC Houchong; Jaojianliu working under PHC Tousem; Aning working under Tamei PHC and LD Theisinchoi working under PHC Noney.

In connection with the ASHA Convention, skit and quiz competitions were held later.

In skit competition, Tamei PHC, Oinamlong PHC and District Hospital bagged first second and third respectively.

In the quiz competition, ASHA from District Hospital bagged first, PHC Oinamlong and Tamei PHC bagged second and third respectively.
