The Department of Health and Family Welfare has identified two institutional quarantine centres for transgender people.
A separate wing for transgender people has been be set up at the quarantine centre at Maria Montessori Higher Secondary School, Koirengei, Imphal East.
This facility will house those transgender people who return d from Red zones, said a statement of Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director Social Welfare.
In addition, a dedicated Transgender Quarantine Centre has been set up at Government ldeal Blind School, Takyelpat, Imphal West to quarantine those coming from Green zone, it said.
Further, the Health Department has provided masks, sanitizers, gloves, PPEs, goggles, sodium hypochlorite solution, etc for use in the Transgender Quarantine Centre at Takyelpat.
The authorities concerned are expecting at least 40 transgender people may require separate quarantine facility.
The current set up at Govt Ideal Blind School can accommodate 24 persons.
The remaining can be accommodated at Maria Montessori Higher Secondary School, Koirengei.
The capacity of the centres can be enhanced as per requirement, said the statement adding transgender people can also be quarantined at the Community Quarantine Centres managed by local authorities provided separate block is allocated to ensure privacy and emotional security.
