Nupilan memorial statue to be unveiled in Tripura

Imphal, April 26 2023: All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) and Manipur Literary & Cultural Forum Tripura will jointly unveil a newly installed memorial statue of the epochal Nupilan at Gouranagar in Khowai district of Tripura on April 30 .

In a release, AMUCO publicity secretary Laishram Krishnachandra informed that the unveiling programme of the statue will be conducted by along with a cultural programme, for which an AMUCO team will leave for Tripura on April 29 .

The 1939 Nupilan (women's uprising) by Manipuri women against the British has been a source of strength for Manipuri women living in and outside the state.

The statue will be unveiled in Tripura with an objective to make the Manipuri diaspora feel proud about being a Manipuri among the different communities residing in their area.

The decision to install statue of Nupilan was taken during the Nupilan observance organised by AMUCO and the Tripura forum on December 12, 2002 at Berimura, which has substantial population of Manipuris in Tripura.

After the resolution to install the Nupilan statue was taken, several charitable Manipuri people donated for construction of the statue, it continued.

Krishnachandra also urged the state government to'take up initiatives for installing statues of Manipur patriots outside the state.
