Saving MU from the clutches of AP Pandey is a significant achievement: O Joy

Imphal, February 23 2020: Claiming that the dismissal of Manipur University Vice Chancellor AP Pandey from his post is a huge win for the people of Manipur, veteran politician O Joy has stated that saving the university from Pandey's clutches is a great achievement and a boon.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, O Joy reminded that Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) launched the initial protest against the corrupt and unethical practices of AP Pandey in the university on May 30, 2018, and eventually, the movement gained momentum as Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA), Manipur University Staffs Association (MUSA) and many CSOs, student unions and organisations joined the protest.

He alleged that despite clear knowledge that AP Pandey was guilty of the charges levelled against him, the Government tried to protect him.

In its attempt to shield the individual, the State Government resorted to sending in armed security personnel inside the university campus on the intervening night of September 20 and 21 (2018), while the students were sleeping, leaving a blot.

The students were tear gassed.

Many were jailed.

The university was literally militarised.

All of these atrocities will leave a mark in the history of the university and the State, the veteran politician claimed.

O Joy continued that eventually, the High Court of Manipur appointed Jarnail Singh as the Administrator of the university and further more, on account of the report submitted by the enquiry committee which was constituted to investigate the matter, AP Pandey was ultimately dismissed, which is a huge win or the people of Manipur.

On the other hand, the veteran politician pointed out that it is shocking, yet amusing that a particular question, carrying 4 marks, was present in the Political Science paper of the Class XII examination conducted by COHSEM, which asked the students to draw the election symbol of the BJP.
