Manipur University, Art of Living observe Yoga Day

Imphal, June 21 2021: Like in other parts of the world, Manipur University and Art of Living respectively observed International Day of Yoga on Monday by organising online discourse and training programme respectively.

Manipur University's department of Yoga in association with NSS Cell, Fit India Campaign Committee and Fit India Club observed the Day through online seminar on "Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family".

A release by Fit India Club convenor L Santosh Singh informed that IFC and YAS minister Letpao Haokip, MU registrar Prof W Chandbabu Singh, MU dean of School of Education Prof T Inaobi Singh and MU vice chancellor in-charge Prof S Sanatombi Singha attended the virtual event as chief guest, guests of honour and president respectively.

Letpao expressed that yoga, an ancient practice and meditation, has become increasingly popular in today's busy society.

For many people, yoga provides a retreat from their chaotic and busy lifestyles, he said and noted that yoga is considered highly relevant and beneficial in contemporary world as the practice comprehensively addresses a diverse range of physical, mental, social and spiritu-al.

As it helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone, "we need to practice yoga regularly," he added.

Meanwhile, Art of Living Manipur also the Day in collaboration with Department of Social Welfare and provided yoga-based immunity enhancement training programme to its employees and children staying in various shelter homes across the state.

Over 300 employees of Art of Living and more than 2000 children attended the online training programme, said a release.

Its trained instructors conducted the training consisting of yoga postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques.

The participants also learnt many proven techniques for boosting immunity and improving the functioning of the lungs.

The training programme was a brainchild of the Social Welfare director Ngangom Uttam Singh.

Addressing the participants, he termed Yoga as the only exercise that takes care of physical, mental and emotional health of a person.

Emphasising the need for finding time to regularly practice yoga and exercises, he said it is like charging the mobile.

"Unless the battery is charged, mobile phone will not work".

He also urged the government to explore the possibilities of providing such opportunities to its employees.

"A healthy workforce will mean a better state and nation," he added.

The Art of Living, in collaboration with International Association of Human Values (IAHV) also provided ayurveda-based immunity enhancement supplements to participants of the programme.
