Imphal, February 19 2025: The Assam Rifles averted a major forest fire near Thangbung Minou village, Chandel district on yesterday, preventing potential loss of life and property.

The fire broke out when villagers attempted to clear a forested slope through controlled burning.

It quickly spread due to strong winds and dry vegetation, said Assam Rifles in a statement.

The fire spread dangerously close to a commercial communication tower and nearby houses.

Troops of Assam Rifles op duty at Chandel noticed thick smoke and immediately mobilized a firefighting team.

Joining hands with the local police and civilians together, the fire was contained, said the Assam Rifles.
