Imphal, July 08 2024:
Taking serious note of the suspected suicide case of 36-year-old Angom Prem-kumar in the pre-fabricated shelter home at Kwakta sericulture complex, and the death of 88-year-old Khundrakpam Kumudini at Yambem Girls' Hostel relief camp, Thoubal Amasung Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) has blamed the government for the untimely demise of the displaced duo and decried failure to resolve the crisis and address the sufferings of the displaced people.
In a statement, TAKDAL said that the state and its people have been suffering unprecedented hardships since the conflict broke out on May 3 last year.
The double engine government of BJP lacks transparency and sincerity in dealing the crisis converting it into an ethnic cleansing proxy war against the indigenous people of the state.
People are beginning to question the existence of a hidden agenda to wipe out the indigenous communities by deliberately keeping the whole crisis in a state of confusion, the statement said.
Calling the state government incompetent for not being able to maintain law and order, and protect lives and properties of the people, TAKDAL asked how long the government will stay and how much lives are required to be sacrificed.
It further asked if the Central government is gagging the chief minister, ministers and ruling MLAs, and why the CM is holding dearly to his chair following diktats of the Centre.
Criticising the present government for its trend of blaming past governments for its incompetency, the statement said that people know the misleading activities of the government.
Noting that after remaining silent for 14 months, Prime Minister said in Rajya Sabha that peace has been restored in the state, TAKDAL accused the CM of feeding misleading information to the Centre in an attempt to cover up issues besieging the state from the world.
People cannot accept such normalisation of the situation wherein peace is elusive for the last 14 months, protest rallies are held almost every day, mothers keep vigil on street whole night, school colleges could not function normally, displaced people are yet to be resettled and rehabilitate, artistes are left high and dry, drivers could not resume service, farmers could not use their farmlands, even the CM and ministers could not visit the hills, future pillars of the society are forced to take up arms and defend themselves and again they are being targeted by the government, people are traumatised and their futures dimmed.
Calling such situation normal is unacceptable at any cost, TAKDAL said.
It further demanded the CM, ministers and MLAs not to divert the ground situation simply because their families are unaffected.
It is the duty of the government to flush out illegal immigrants, prevent their infiltration, protect forest, eradicate drug, abrogate SoO agreement, and maintain law and order situation.
Unless the government could not fulfil its duties, they should resign.
At the same time, the government should stop protecting the 10 Kuki MLAs who have been demanding separate administration since the beginning, the statement said.
TAKDAL further reiterated that the government should be held responsible for killing Angom Premkumar and Khundrakpam Kumudini as their fates were sealed by the crisis and inability of the government to resolve it.
The government should provide adequate compensation to their families and take up necessary steps to make it the last case.
TAKDAL also demanded the government to convene an emergency special assembly session to take a firm resolution to resolve the crisis at the earliest while cautioning of launching intense forms of agitation if the government continues to ignore the public sentiment.
The statement also censured politicisation of the recent maiden speech of Inner MP Prof Bimol Akoijam and negative criticism brought up by certain sections of the society against it.
TAKDAL fully supports the speech of the MP, it added.
