Congress accused of fuelling Koubru row
Cong playing a good game of misleading people: Bijoy

Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, July 07 2021: While accusing the Congress party of scheming to create tension and provoking the people over the Koubru issue, BJP Manipur Pradesh chief spokesperson Chongtham Bijoy said that the Mount Koubru issue will resolve automatically after Congress party stops instigating.

Addressing a press meet Wednesday, Bijoy asked Congress party to stop blowing the issue and making incitive statements by its leaders one after another.

He then asked the Congress to find out the identity of COPPK members while stating that one of its members Dr Lamtinthang Haokip recently contested the by-election of Saitu AC on Congress ticket.

The party cannot deny the communal statement made by its Saitu BCC by simply saying that the statement was issued without the approval of MPCC.

He then asked why the Congress party is not taking up disciplinary action against the BCC if the party is against the statement.

Regarding the charges over the government signing an agreement with COPPK, Bijoy clarified that either the chief secretary or an officer at the level of commissioner or secretary should represent the government in any official agreement.

No minister can represent the government in any official agreement.

He then asked the Congress not to blow up the issue when the state is facing the impact of Covid-19.Koubru is a reserved forest area and the government will evict any illegal encroachments.

The government has initiated process to protect Koubru, Marjing and Thang-jing under Manipur Ancient and Historical Monument and Archaeological Sites and Re-mains (Second Amendment) Act, 1966, he said and asked Congress MLA K Meghachandra to make the party's Dr Lamtinthang Haokip subscribe to the idea of Koubru belonging to all indigenous communities first before making any statement on the issue.

On Tuesday, Bijoy remarked that the Congress party is playing a good game of misleading the people.

In a video recording released to the press, Bijoy dismissed the contention of the Congress party that the recent visit of BJP leaders BL Santosh and Sambit Patra was in the interest of the ruling party and had nothing to do with addressing suffering of the people due to the Covid-19 situation in the state.

Reacting against the Congress' allegation, he asserted that the two leaders had come to the state to assess the Covid-19 situation and to collect report for the same from the government.

"Congress has alleged through the media that the two leaders had come to stage a "play" to secure votes.

However, discussions were held on the relief works being undertaken by the party workers under the Seva Hi Sangathan programme, including distribution of relief materials to around 30,000 people.

Unfortunately, Congress has been playing a good game of misleading the people from the truth," he remarked.

Bijoy continued: "Congress party self appoints its spokespersons, who then spew gibberish in the name of the poor.

However, the people have BJP on their side.

People should not forget the Congress party has been rejected in other states".

"Additionally, they have distorted the visit meant for assessing the Covid-19 situation to that of rectifying the political errors.

The state government has been and will continue to follow all protocols.

Moreover, the people of Manipur are with the BJP as Congress has been unable to return to power after losing the trust of the people," he added.

Pointing out the Delhi and other states were the first to detect Covid-19 cases, Bijoy said that as the virus was de-tected belatedly the recovery will also take time.

The charges made by Congress with regard to Covid are natural and the Congress MLAs who are assisting the people are very much appreciated.

"However, the double standard flowing in the DNA of Congress is unchangeable", he observed.

Regarding the charges made by Congress over fuel prices, the spokesperson said that there is barely any difference between the fuel prices of Congress ruled states and BJP ruled states.

However, no question has been raised on lowering the VAT in such states, which clearly indicates Congress' double standard attitude on the issue.

"Unfortunately, Congress has failed to grasp the meaning of 'double standard'.

The party has failed to understand that they cannot charge the CM of not fulfilling promises without considering time and location constraints.

Congress should stop confusing the people and instead should work for welfare of the people," he stated.
