AITUC calls for swift aid to storm victims

All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur State has called upon the state government to promptly deliver requisite assistance to those affected by the thunderstorm and hailstorm that struck the state on Sunday, causing extensive damage to numerous houses, educational institutions and standing crops.
While expressing that natural disasters are inevitable and it is beyond human kind to control or prevent such calamitous events, AITUC Manipur general secretary L Sotinkumar said in a statement contended the authorities concerned should have given advanced warning of such calamities to ensure that people start preparation and remain vigilant.
The release further stated that the people of the state are currently grappling with significant challenges amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis that has paralysed the state.
Moreover, miseries of the peo -pie have been aggravated by the heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorm on May 5.As many of the affected individuals are still struggling, having lost their houses with nowhere to go, it is imperative for the state government to swiftly provide relief to the victims.
Subsequently, they should seek special packages from the central government and ensure fair distribution to the affected populace.
Additionally, the disaster management team should be mobilised to provide assistance to the affected people, it said.
The release also stressed the need for collaboration between agriculture and horticulture department to ensure compensation is provided to farmers for their damaged crops while suggesting that authority concerned extend necessary help to those who have lost their lives and those injured in lightning strikes.
