While the government has begun taking up steps to extend assistance to all those affected by the hailstorm that hit the state on Sunday, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra on Monday urged the government to make it clear how it is planning to assist the affected people.
In a press meet held at Congress Bhawan, here, on Monday, Meghachandra said that the hailstorm which occurred on Sunday has added to burden to the people, who are already reeling under impact of the ongoing ethnic conflict.
Informing that he visited the places affected by the hailstorm, Meghachandra stated that subsequent to the assurance of support by the chief minister as well as issuance of application form for availing the assistance from the side of the government, he approached the district administration on how the assistance is to be provided.
While quoting the district administration as saying that a survey would be conducted, Meghachandra opined that as the official process generally takes time, government authorities should initiate measures to promptly assist the affected people.
He also urged the government to clarify whether the assistance would be in the form of relief materials or monetary aid and suggested that the government distribute the relief materials through the DCs or for utilising the Local Area Development Fund of the MLAs of the areas affected by the hailstorm.
