Police pick up Malem, mother begins hunger strike

Transgender activist Malem Thongam, who threatens to launch 'suicide protest' if the government failed to take action against the ten Kuki MLAs who are raising the demand for a separate administration for the Kukis, was picked up by police on Saturday morning from Soibam Leikai.
Following this incident, Bino, mother of Malem Thongam, has begun a hunger strike protest at Moirangkhom vowing to continue till she met the chief minister.
Malem Thongam is from Maiba Khul under Heingang assembly constituency and lives only with his mother.
Malem has been launching protests demanding to take action against the 10 Kuki MLAs, who are demanding a separate administration for the Kukis, so as to disrupt the integrity of Manipur.
On September 20, Malem announced the decision of launching suicide protest in front of the CM's Bungalow if the government failed to take action against the ten Kuki MLAs.
Later, in the press conference conducted on Friday, Malem declared that the protest could be launched at any place if the government failed to take action within 3 pm of Saturday.
Taking note of this declaration, a team of Porompat police picked Malem up from Soibam Leikai early morning on Saturday.
Meanwhile, supporters of Malem particularly youth gathered at Singjamei Hao ground and took out a rally towards the CM's Bunglaow along with his mother Bino.
But police halted them at Moirangkhom.
As such, Bino began a hunger strike protest at Moirangkhom vowing to continue until she met the chief minister.
