Imphal, August 05, 2010: Assam Rifles troops have reportedly arrested four persons, including three foreigners from Kakching and Tengnoupal areas today.

A PRO IGAR (S) release said troops of 21 AR of 9 sector netted a PREPAK activist at around 2.10 am from general area Kakching, where search operation was launched.

The arrested person has been identified as Nongmaithem Romesh alias Ngoucha Singh (27) s/o N Madhu Chandra Singh of Kakching Mayai Leikai.

In another development, troops of 33 and 39 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector recovered 120 kgs of gelatin sticks along with two detonators from Bunglushi.

The recoveries were suspected to belong to UG groups and likely to be used for some untoward activities in Imphal city on the occasion of the forth-coming Independence Day, the PRO release maintained while adding that the recovered items have been handed over to Kumbi police station.

Substantiating on the recovery, a PIB (DW) release said troops of Red Shield Division got information about stocking of explosive material in Bishnupur district, which was likely to be utilised by the armed groups to attack security forces in the area.

Consequently a joint column of 39 and 33 Assam Rifles launched a specific search operation in Wangthalambi village resulting in the recovery of the explosives buried two feet under ground and wrapped in eight plastic canisters.

The three foreigners apprehended from vehicle check post at Tengnoupal and Sita road junction at around 8 am have been identified as Myanmar nationals hailing from Molmil village in Moon district of Myanmar namely Md Salim (22) s/o Md Maqpul Ahmad, Hujeifa Mahammed (20) s/o (L) Syed Ahmed and Md Tahir (240 s/o (L) Md Munir Ahmad.

Listing three fake identity cards, cash of Rs 12,990, four mobile handsets, one Indica Car with RC book and a voter identity card as items recovered from the trio, the PRO said all three along with the items have been handed over to Imphal West police station.

It is informed that the AR troops manning the check post observed three person sitting suspiciously inside an Indica Car (MN04A/1216) heading for Moreh and on being questioned came to light that they were Myanmar nationals living in Jallalabad, Uttar Pradesh without proper documents since October 2007. They were studying in Mosque and obtained fake indian identity cards from the Jallalabad Mosque, claimed the PRO.
