Imphal, October 23 2013:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has accused the Government of India on Wednesday of using a covert strategy to foment tensions between Manipur and neighbouring Myanmar by creating a border issue.
AMUCO president Dr Y Mani Khuman briefing the media at the organisation's office here said the two-day visit to Moreh in Chandel district from October 21-22 by leaders from several civil society organizations assessed the current status of the Indo-Myanmar Border fencing now in dispute.
He alleged that the fencing erection along the Indo-Myanmar boundary has been done after the Government of India gave a green signal to it so the Government cannot say it has no knowledge about it.
During the visit to Moreh, the team witnessed maltreatment by Myanmar army meted out to the villagers whose land has been encroached and fenced by the neighbouring country as its boundary area, he said.
He pledged AMUCO has prepared to challenge the faulty fence construction by Myanmar at the alleged behest of the Government of India.
Khuman said there is still cloud with regard to border pillar numbers 64 and 68 at Molcham, border pillar numbers 75 and 79 at Moreh and pillar numbers 88 and 98 at Choro Khunou after the Government ceded the total land of Molphai village and another half of Govajang village to Myanmar for the border fencing.
There are many more villages in Manipur sector of the international line to be affected by the fencing erection process, he added.
He added AMUCO will do anything to protect the state's boundary and that it would seek help from the Asian Border Dispute Committee in connection with this issue.
Khuman also suggested the Government to set up a joint border security force to maintain peace between the two neighbours while demanding that the Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing should be stopped immediately until a proper re-survey is conducted for re-demarcation.
