Locals demand arrest of culprits

Innovative People's Improvement Centre (IMPACT) Uchiwa Leirak Achouba and locals have appealed the authorities concerned for immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the alleged sexual assault of a mentally challenged woman on March 11 .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Thounaojam Bonbihari, advisor of IMPACT club informed that the incident happened at around 3.30 pm of March 11 when the victim woman, who is undergoing treatment for mental problems, was found missing from her residence.
At around 8.30 pm of the same day, some individuals in an Alto car dropped the victim woman near their residence gate and sped away from the spot in a hurry.
Although some locals gave chase to the Alto car they failed to catch it but were able to note down the vehicle's registration number.
He explained that the next day the victim's party lodged a complaint at Mayang Imphal PS regarding the incident.
During the course of time the Alto car allegedly used by the culprits, was found parked at Mayang Imphal Bazaar area and four individuals coming in the said car were detained and taken into police custody.
They were later produced before the Court in connection with the case but were let out on bail, he added.
The medical examination of the victim women was conducted at RIMS Forensic Science Laboratory on March 14 after an FIR was lodged by Mayang Imphal PS .
However the police have failed to provide the medical examination report to the family members of the victim till date, he claimed and added that they have even submitted a memorandum for issuing the medical report to the victim family members and to file a charge sheet in connection with the case at the earliest.
Thounaojam Bonbihari appealed to the police for the arrest of the accused individuals, who are out on bail, and other culprits involved in the case within a week.
If the police and the authority concerned fail to take any positive action then IMPACT club along with the locals will launch various forms of agitation, he warned.
