NPP to finalise stand at national meet

Imphal, September 27 2024:
To deliberate on whether or not the party will continue to go together with BJP aftermath of the crisis in the state, the National People's Party (NPP) convened a meet at Guwahati (Assam) on Friday chaired by party president Conrad Sangma.
The decision to withdraw party's support to the BJP-led government or not, however, will be finalised at the national executive meet on October 5 .
The meeting held at Hotel Redison Blue, Guwahati was chaired by Conrad Sangma.
As per sources, six out of seven NPP MLAs of Manipur took part the meeting as also 15 members of party's state executive committee.
Party MLAs who attended the meeting were Kh Loken of Wangoi AC, Thongam Shanti of Moirang, I Nalini of Oinam, M Rameshwar of Kakching, Janghemlung Pamei of Tamenglong and Sheikh Noorul Hassan of Kshetrigao AC.
At the meeting, NPP Manipur executive committee members and MLAs expressed their views on the ongoing crisis in Manipur and the role of the government till date independently.
They also highlighted people's frustration over failure of BJP governments both at the Centre and in the state to address the humanitarian crisis with some even remarking that NPP would not receive support of the people in the next election in view of party's inability to work independently despite supporting the BJP-led government in the state, the source added.
In his address, Conrad Sangma assured that all the matters discussed will be placed at the national executive meet on October 5 and adopt a definite decision.
Notably, NPP vice-president Y Joykumar had during a press conference held on July 1, 2024 in Imphal announced that the party will withdraw support to BJP-led government if no satisfactory step to resolve the crisis is initiated, and even set the dateline of October 3, 2024.The dateline was put to the knowledge of party president Conrad Sangma who assured a decision in this connection during the national executive committee meet, likely to be attended by representatives from party's state unit and legislatures.
