Imphal, April 26 2024:
Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) curcumin said that turmeric produced in the state are different from those available at national and international markets and are in high demand by pharmaceutical companies due to its high curcumin content, which is 6.5 to 7 per cent higher than others.
He made the remark while flagging off a consignment of sliced and dried turmeric weighing 6 tonnes for Mumbai and Daman from the warehouse of Economy & Research Development Organisation (ERDO) on Friday.
Speaking at the event, Vishal informed that this is not the first time ERDO has despatched consignments of organic products from the state.
The consignment of turmeric being sent on Friday was collected through four Farmers Producer Companies (FPCs) registered under MOMA, he said.
While reiterating that high curcumin content is the primary reason for the increasing demand from major companies manufacturing medicinal products and health supplements for turmeric produced in the state, the assistant project officer called upon farmers to plant organic products while assuring market linkage.
He also urged ERDO to continue its work by reaching out to more farmers.
ERDO president Takhellambam Sanajaoba said that they had sent several consignments of organic U-Morok (king chilli), dried turmeric, Chak-hao (black aromatic rice) and other products in the past.
After the dried slices of turmeric sent on Friday, they are also making preparations for despatching another consignment of 6 tonnes of dried turmeric, he revealed and urged farmers to grow organic products.
