42 AR takes aggressive defensive posture

Imphal, November 23 2021: 42 Assam Rifles has notified to deputy commissioner of Kamjong district Rangnamei Rang Peter and SP Ravi Choudhary that the paramilitary force has launched aggressive defensive posture in the district from November 20 .

According to a letter sent by 42 AR to the district administration on November 19, AR is taking the more intensive security measures in light of the recent incident that had taken place in Churachandpur district on November 13 in which five security personnel including a commanding officer were martyred in an ambush.

Large number of inputs have been received with respect to focused targeting of security forces and their assets in Ukhrul and Kamjong.

Resultantly, this battalion will go in aggressive defensive posture till further orders, the letter said.

The letter further said that the aggressive defensive posture will include extensive operational move of columns in pre designated areas, intimate domination of the vulnerable area on the Indo-Myanmar Border to prevent infiltration of inimical elements based in Myanmar, targeted move control over civilians activities including checking of civilians and vehicles, appropriate reaction and retaliation to any aggressive or inimical activity and limited check on collective move of civilian for any event.

In light of these, district administration is requested to inform the villages under the district to ensure that there is no uninformed move of hunters/any other individual outside his village till further orders, no move towards the Indo-Myanmar Border, no movement close to any security forces establishment up to SO metres, no casual vehicular movement on any of the highways or internal arteries and no movement with weapons under any circumstances at any time of the day or night, it directed.

The AR notice further cautioned that all aforementioned activities if violated will be considered hostile activity and the security forces reserve the right to use a suitable lethal response to neutralise the activity.

Mention may be made that in the aftermath of the recent ambush on an AR convoy near Behiang T village in Churachandpur district, restrictions have been imposed on the movement of people under Singngat sub-division.

Central and state forces are being put on high-alert after the combined attack on the convoy by People's Liberation Army (PLA) and Manipur Naga People's Front (MNPF) that claimed the lives of a commanding officer, his wife and son, and four other personnel.

Sources informed that frisking of vehicles is being carried out in the area while unauthorised vehicles are being advised not to travel towards the Indo-Myanmar border near Behiang T village.

Local hunters have also been advised to avoid wearing camouflage outfits while venturing out for hunting in the jungle.
