Imphal, May 21 2024:
In an interesting development, some delegates from Kuki-Zo and Meetei community came together in Guwahati recently, along with some Naga leaders and Tamil delegates from Moreh town, to find ways for restoration of peace in Manipur.
Some delegates who participated in the meeting informed Newmai News Network on Tuesday night that the meeting was held on May 17 at Bosco Reach Out Guest House, Alubari in Guwahati.
The delegates also informed that the meeting was initiated by All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO).
They further informed that six delegates from Kuki-Zo community and same number from Meetei community participated in the meeting.
According to the delegates, five Naga leaders, including the convenor of United Naga Council (UNC) Peace Committee, and eight delegates from Tamil community in Moreh town and others also participated in the meeting, which had three sessions.
"This is the first open meeting of Meetei-Kuki-Zo delegates after several discreet meetings and efforts put in by so many concerned leaders and peace activists for restoration of peace in Manipur after the May 3, 2023 violence that broke out between the Meetei and Kuki-Zo communities," the delegates further informed.
"The participants in the meeting are looking forward to having more such meetings in the days to come," they added.
Meanwhile, amidst reports on social media regarding the peaceful co-existence of Thadou and Meetei communities in Pallel, the Thadou Khanglai Lompi (TKL) has issued a strong statement asserting that this harmony has been a steadfast reality for the past few months.
An official statement of TKL informed that in response to misinformation circulating on social media, purportedly spread by certain Kuki users censuring peaceful co -existence between Meeteis and Thadous in Pallel, TKL has called for an end to these false narratives and fervently requested 'so-called' Kuki brethren to refrain from spreading such misinformation.
TKL emphasised their commitment to seeking peace and unity with the Meeteis beyond Pallel while attributing the current Manipur conflict to short-term misunderstandings between communities.
The Thadou body also opined that Pallel should serve as an example of Thadou and Meetei communities living together peacefully, as they have in the past.
"We, the Thadou Khanglai Lompi, will continue to seek peace and unity with the Meeteis beyond Pallel.
The Manipur conflict is only due to short-term misunderstandings between communities.
Pallel should be an example of Thadou and Meeteis living together peacefully, similar to our peaceful co-existence in the past," the statement read.
The TKL statement urged all parties to work towards maintaining and promoting the peace and unity that has been established in Pallel, setting a precedent for other regions to follow.
