Imphal, August 20 2009: Miscreants last night attempted to torch government offices at two different places in Imphal east and Bishnupur district.

The Nambol SDO office situated at Nambol Chingmang Pukhri Achouba under Nambol police station which miscreants caught fire by dousing patrol and using cooking gas cylinder but employees staying at the office put the fire under control before causing widespread damage to the office properties and structure, reports said.

The bid to arson the office was amidst the strict measures to protect the office as there was apprehension of attacking by the protestors, according to Alangbam Sonia, junior MCS officer posting in the office.

Four staffs of the office along with four VDF are guarding the office at the night time, she added.

Miscreants intruded into the office complex by crossing the fencing wall and catch fire in the bid to torch the structure having five rooms at about 2.10 am.

The fire caught by them was put off by the office staffs and VDF personnel who rushed to the spot on seeing the flame.

If the staffs and VDF personnel happened to miss the flame, the whole structure may have been turn down into ash, she observed.

Police, later today recovered a gas cylinder from the spot.

The office building of the SDC located at Saglomang near the residence of the MLA Th Lokeshwor which ready for inauguration was also attempted to torch by the some miscreants last night at about 7.30 pm.

Locals said that four miscreants coming on an Activa Honda and a motorcycle first broke the window paints of the structure and pour kerosene to set fire.

When the fire started burning locals rushed to the spot and put off the fire.

No major damage caused to the structure but around four bags of cement lost in water pouring to put the fire under control.
