Thoubal, April 19 2024:
Former chief minister Okram Ibobi and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra cast their vote at Athokpam Makha Leikai 35/42 Athokpam Makha UP School, Khangabok and 32/38 Bishnunaha Federation (Club House), Yairipok Bishnunaha Mayai Leikai, Wangkhem respectively on Friday.
Speaking to newspersons after casting his vote, Ibobi expressed that though it is the right of every citizen to cast their votes in the Lok Sabha election, the polling process in some areas were peaceful but the same cannot be guaranteed in the periphery areas such as Sugnu, Napat, Tronglaobi, Keirao and Andro foothill areas.
Referring to a firing incident in Sugnu area prompting the voters to flee for safety, the former CM contended that it was a well-planned strategy to murder democracy.
Instead of deploying additional central paramilitary forces, poorly-equipped home guards were utilised in the periphery areas, which is unfortunate, he remarked.
Meanwhile, MLA Meghachandra informed that INDIA Bloc is preparing to file a complaint to the Election Commission of India through the CEO for ordering re-poll in the affected polling stations.
